We will stay in Mailly-le-Château, a medieval Burgundian village in the French countryside with bucolic surroundings, clifftop views, and meandering riverways. Over centuries, this village is noted for its 14th-century fortified castle and the 13th-century church of St Adrian. 
Rock cliffs border the village on one side and cow fields and farmland on the other. As barges paddle slowly up and down the canal,  you can delight in the clifftop views from above.
